چکیده
In this note, we show that small complex perturbations of positive matrices are contractions, with respect to a complex version of the Hilbert metric, on a neighbourhood of the interior of the real simplex within the complex simplex. We show that this metric can be used to obtain estimates of the domain of analyticity of entropy rate for a hidden Markov process when the underlying Markov chain has strictly positive transition probabilities.

Relative Entropy Rate between a Markov Chain and Its Corresponding Hidden Markov Chain
In this paper we study the relative entropy rate between a homogeneous Markov chain and a hidden Markov chain defined by observing the output of a discrete stochastic channel whose input is the finite state space homogeneous stationary Markov chain. For this purpose, we obtain the relative entropy between two finite subsequences of above mentioned chains with the help of the definition of...
متن کاملTaylor Expansion for the Entropy Rate of Hidden Markov Chains
We study the entropy rate of a hidden Markov process, defined by observing the output of a symmetric channel whose input is a first order Markov process. Although this definition is very simple, obtaining the exact amount of entropy rate in calculation is an open problem. We introduce some probability matrices based on Markov chain's and channel's parameters. Then, we try to obtain an estimate ...

We give relaxed sufficient conditions (compared to [2]) for analyticity of the entropy rate of a hidden Markov chain. Several examples of the relaxed conditions are given. A general principle to calculate the domain of analyticity is stated. An example is given to estimate the radius of convergence for the entropy rate. Finally, we prove a “stabilizing” property of “Black Hole” case, which sugg...
متن کاملThe Relative Entropy Rate For Two Hidden Markov Processes
The relative entropy rate is a natural and useful measure of distance between two stochastic processes. In this paper we study the relative entropy rate between two Hidden Markov Processes (HMPs), which is of both theoretical and practical importance. We give new results showing analyticity, representation using Lyapunov exponents, and Taylor expansion for the relative entropy rate of two discr...
متن کاملAnalyticity of Entropy Rate of Continuous-State Hidden Markov Chains
We prove that under certain mild assumptions, the entropy rate of a hidden Markov chain, observed when passing a finite-state stationary Markov chain through a discretetime continuous-output channel, is jointly analytic as a function of the input Markov chain parameters and the channel parameters. In particular, as consequences of the main theorems, we obtain analyticity for the entropy rate as...
